Synopsis: Detective Ishiko Takaaki (Terao Akira) and others from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division receive information on a case that has taken place. The deceased is housewife Kuriyama Kyoko (Ito Yuko). Because her husband Toshio (Nomura Hironobu) is on a five-day business trip to Tohoku, Kyoko’s sister Takase Masako (Toda Naho) got worried when she did not see her. She rushed to the house, only to discover a dead Kyoko in the storeroom. The detectives initially suspect Kuriyama. However, there are signs that someone had smashed the back door and broken into the house. So the direction of the investigation focuses on a third-party who had taken advantage of Kuriyama’s absence to murder Kyoko. As if backing this theory, forensic results detect fingerprints belonging to people other than the family from the rear entrance and second floor bedrooms. However, Ishiko finds it odd that no fingerprints were discovered in the storeroom where the dead body was. At an investigation meeting the next day, the possibility that Kuriyama had committed the crime is verified. During the period Kuriyama was on the business trip from 29 January, he was mostly with his subordinate (Mizusawa Shingo) but they learn that from the afternoon of 31 January, he had been staying in Koriyama with Hagino Mitsuharu (Horibe Keisuke), his good friend from university days. Hagino’s wife Asami (Hamada Maha) provides Kuriyama’s alibi. Kuriyama is dropped from the list of suspects. At that moment, Ishiko’s subordinate Makihara Hidenori (Emoto Tasuku) who has been making inquiries around the neighbouhood, obtains an eyewitness account of a suspicious-looking man emerging from the Kuriyama residence around 8.00 p.m. on 1 February. When Makihara asks the neighbourhood resident (Oshima Yoko) for details of the man’s features, she describes him as in his mid-40s with a chiseled face. Ishiko promptly asks Kuriyama if he has someone in mind. Then Kurihara looks towards a photograph on a display cabinet. The picture is of the Kuriyamas with the Haginos as well as the Takases … … Ishiko gives Makihara this photograph. When it is shown to the resident, she identifies the man she had seen as Hagino. Makihara and the others rush to Koriyama in an attempt to bring him in for questioning. However, Hagino has already disappeared … …
