Synopsis: Saotome Shiro (Murakami Hiroaki) transfers from the Public Relations Division to Team Higa, the special investigation unit led by Higa Choji (Tayama Ryosei) of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigation Division. Yashiki Runa (Fukuda Saki) had hoped for a handsome young man when she heard that a new person was coming. She takes one look and feels disappointed. However, she is instantly put in a good mood with homemade cream puffs from him. Shindo Shinkichi (Miyakawa Ichirota) and Goda Kaname (Suda Kunihiro) are surprised by Saotome’s feminine behaviour. At that moment, the unit is asked to come to the scene where a man’s dead body was discovered. For some reason, Saotome stares at his own face in a compact mirror before he begins examining the dead person – a freelance journalist called Nakagawa Kazuya. He haemorrhaged to death due to his fall from a building. But Saotome suspects that Nakagawa was murdered because of the unnatural bleeding of his head. Onizuka Katsura (Maya Miki), another detective from the unit, arrives from a mahjong parlour. Deciding that Saotome has a point, she heads to Nakagawa’s apartment after a quick investigation of the crime scene. She picks the door lock before Saotome can stop her and begins inspecting the apartment. Before long, they establish that Nagakawa was a third-rate reporter with a bad reputation. He was called the boy who cried wolf by his editor because of constant bogus information. Even so, Nagakawa said he would soon bring in material that would shock society and it seemed that he had raised hopes. Several weeks before Nakagawa’s death, he and a lawyer Maeda Masaomi (Iida Kisuke) who became famous after winning an acquittal at a trial, caused trouble within the compound of Garden View Utsukushigaoka and were reported by the apartment residents. They discover a large amount of photos of the exterior of Garden View Utsukushigaoka along with photos of Maeda’s secret meeting with a woman from Nakagawa’s computer. The special investigation unit investigate Nakagawa’s friends while Saotome and Katsura team up to do legwork in the vicinity of the apartment building. Katsura want to talk to Maeda personally and is halfhearted. Saotome coaxes her. After staring at his own face in his compact mirror, he joins the circle of housewives who are standing around talking. This is how he learns that Maeda had also quarreled with a resident Takabayashi Tsuyoshi (Omi Toshinori) before the trouble with Nakagawa. Takabayashi is the person in charge of construction at Flex Construction which built this apartment building, and also Maeda’s schoolmate in university days. Saotome goes on to question Takabayashi’s wife. But Katsura says it is faster to hear directly from Takabayashi himself and goes to Flex Construction alone. Takabayashi’s wife Manami (Yoshimoto Miyoko) runs confectionery making classes at home. Saotome mixes with the housewives and joins in. Meanwhile, Katsura begins her stakeout on the traditional Japanese restaurant where Takabayashi is being entertained. She makes contact with him after he comes out from the restaurant and her intuition tells her that he is hiding something about Nakagawa’s case. Saotome confirms that Manami was the woman whom Maeda had met. The two of them link up and head to a place which Saotome frequents to fill their stomachs. The proprietress turns out to be Saotome’s ex-wife Nosaka Izumi (Fujiyoshi Kumiko). The next day, Maeda, the youth who was the accused in the trial, and his parents are celebrating at a hotel. Then an incident happens. Maeda is attacked by someone … …!
