Synopsis
One night, the car carrying Prime Minister Tonomura Shigeru plunges off a cliff. The driver who died in the accident was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. In addition, suspicions begin to be raised about its connection to a secret pact surrounding the approval of a new drug. Meanwhile, one man approaches the Prime Minister’s secretary Nakano Hiroki who is busy dealing with the accident. The name of this man who is also called a fixer, is Shitara Kenichi. He has covered up the Prime Minister’s scandals in the past and had spoken to him on the phone right before the accident happened. Was this just an accident? Or was it a set up? Deputy Prime Minister Suzaki Ichio and the fixer Hongo Goichi, whom he has close ties with, hold secret talks as they plot to make someone they can manipulate Prime Minister Tonomura’s successor. While newspaper journalist Watanabe Tatsuya is absorbed in gathering information, he receives a tip from someone. When the prime minister does not regain consciousness, he is removed from office and the leadership contest begins. As the kingmaker, Kenichi has the ruling party’s candidates in the palm of his hand and takes power in his hands.

Fujiki Naohito as Nakano Hiroki
Prime Minister Tonomura Shigeru’s Principal Private Secretary who possesses everything that a politician’s secretary should have – a sense of responsibility, balance, calmness and knowledge. Tonomura has a great deal of trust in him. As his wife is suffering from an incurable illness, making her happy has also become his motivation for work. Right after the accident involving the car that the Prime Minister was riding in, Shitara Kenichi contacts him to propose that they search for the truth together.

Machida Keita as Watanabe Tatsuya
A political journalist with major newspaper. He was raised single-handedly by his mother Kyoko who is a nurse. He respects her for being sincere in any matter and is an honest man who pursues the truth without being influenced by those around him. He tries to get to the truth by contacting the people connected to the Prime Minister’s accident.

Koizumi Kotaro as Itakura Koji
A detective from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police’s First Investigation Division. An outlaw who hates being bound by rules, he feels something is not quite right about the accident involving the car that Prime Minister Tonomura Shigeru was riding in, and investigates the case without any regard for his superior’s advice. This is due to Shitara Kenichi, who was connected to another case that he was involved in the past, slipping in and out of view in this present case.

Nishida Toshiyuki as Hongo Goichi
The fixer who has dominated Japan for a long time. He has Deputy Prime Minister Suzaki Ichiro completely in his control and also a say in the party’s management. He believes “politics is a world of desires” and does not like Tonomura Shigeru who became Prime Minister with a clean image. Tonomura’s accident gives him an opportunity to make someone whom he can influence the next prime minister. But Shitara Kenichi works behind the scenes to hinder his efforts. He finds Shitara, who can be called the fixer of the Reiwa era, an eyesore and tries to eliminate him.

Nagashima Toshiyuki as Tonomura Shigeru
The present Prime Minister. He is a well-respected, policy-oriented political veteran. His car plunged off the cliff, and he ended up in a coma. Just before the accident happened, he had told Shitara Kenichi over the phone to get help from his Principal Private Secretary Nakano Hiroki whom he called a trustworthy man.

Jinnai Takanori as Oizumi Yusaku
The Chief Cabinet Secretary. In response to Prime Minister Tonomura Shigeru’s accident, he and Suzaki Ichiro are the ones who decide on Tonomura’s resignation without confirming his intentions. Desperate to be the Prime Minister, he has been willing to do whatever it takes even dirty work, since losing out to Tonomura in the final round of voting at the last election for party president.

Uchida Yuki as Sawamura Reiko
A popular newscaster for a news programme. She and Shitara Kenichi became acquainted through some incident and they came to recognise that there is a certain mutual understanding. She exchanges information related to the Prime Minister’s accident with Shitara but worries that he will get entangled in the case.

Kobayashi Kaoru as Suzaki Ichiro
The Deputy Prime Minister in Prime Minister Tonomura Shigeru’s administration. He seems to be mild-mannered and gentlemanly, and has a considerable say within the party.
