Synopsis: Manga writer Uonuma Yota (Hamada Gaku), who has turned 35, is facing crunch time with a looming deadline for his series. Meanwhile, he hears a fascinating story from Shimada Eiko (Kusabue Mitsuko), the 88-year-old proprietress of a traditional bar that he happened to stroll into with his senior Nishi Kaito (Tsuda Kenjiro). She says that during the Pacific War in the early 1940s, her family ran an eatery which gave meals to the young pilots belonging to the kamikaze suicide unit in the town of Chiran in Kagoshima Prefecture. Wanting to turn this story into a manga, Yota asks Eiko for her assistance. Eiko talks about the true picture of these pilots that is completely unknown to Yota. He also visits her childhood friend Ida Tamotsu (Yoshizawa Ken), who is one of the surviving pilots, and learns what they were really thinking.
