Synopsis: Kawakami Yusuke (Tanaka Kei), a rookie detective over 30 years old, has been assigned to Tsukishima Higashi Police Precinct’s Criminal Affairs Division. Together with Assistant Inspector Kodera Junpei (Sugimoto Tetta) from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, he is put in charge of interrogating Jozaki Tomoya (Okabe Takashi). Jozaki owns a hospital and is suspected of murdering his own wife. As the time limit that they can keep Jozaki in custody approaches, Kodera finally obtains his confession. However, Utsunomiya Mio (Shuri), the lawyer in charge, asks if they made him admit to the crime with Oyagi’s investigation method. Yusuke flares up. Mio’s words hit a sore point. The name she mocked is actually Yusuke’s father Oyagi Hirokuni (Maruyama Tomomi) who had been a detective. In fact, when Yusuke was still an elementary school student, Oyagi was condemned by the public for a wrongful conviction because he forced someone into confessing. He never talk about the truth and passed away all of a sudden. Yusuke was taken in by his maternal grandmother and changed his name. Jozaki’s case soon takes an unexpected turn right after the collapse of the prosecutor in charge of the case. He refuses to tell them the location where he dumped the dead body and keeps silent. This would have been decisive for his indictment. Yusuke desperately presses on with the investigation. However, his effort is in vain. The case against Jozaki is dropped. Furthermore, Yusuke is taken aback when he hears the decision on name of prosecutor taking over the case – Karasawa Masato (Nakamura Tomoya). Masato is his long-lost younger brother who became the adopted son of Karasawa Yotaro, the former Public Prosecutor General of the High Public Prosecutors Office, after their father’s death. He immediately barges into Masato’s office and questions why he dismissed the case. Masato has read the records of Jozaki’s statement and coldly scoffs that there is a problem with the interrogation. But he has an idea and moves behind the scenes to raise new questions about Jozaki’s case. Meanwhile, Yusuke investigates an arson attack on a large company’s warehouse which he suspects is related to a series of small fires. Due to the CEO Maruyama Yoshiro’s (Kinoshita Houka) pressure on the police and prosecution, the investigation is unprecedented in its scale. Yusuke and Masato end up handling the same case once again. Despite their contrasting way of doing things and occasional confrontations, they make progress in the investigation.
