Aikawa Kazuki is a university lecturer who teaches ethology, which is the study of animal behaviour. He grew up under the watchful eye of his grandfather Aikawa Yoshitaka who is a ceramic artist, and now gets on with a live-in housekeeper Yamada Taeko. Kazuki just started life as a lecturer six months earlier at the recommendation of Professor Samejima Shun whom he studied under in university. However, when it comes to the living things that Kazuki loves, he gets so immersed that he pays no attention to other things. He does not listen to people, is unable to read situations and often ends up making harmless but inappropriate comments. He is also not able to follow the workplace rules and gets scolded by office manager Kumano Hisashi at work every day while associate professor Kashinoki Satoshi and fellow lecturer Numabukuro Junpei who are in the same office treat him like an odd-ball. Kazuki’s lessons are “not ordinary”. Although he gives students assignments to make them express their opinions, he would end up saying that he does not know the right answer and stump them. Kazuki’s behaviour bewilders the people around him, and at times, it even irritates them. They keep this “eccentric” at a slight distance but this does not perturb him. However, their own values are shaken by the sight of Kazuki, who has no bias or preconceived ideas and enjoys each day following his interests and curiosity, and they are gradually influenced by him.

Takahashi Issei as Aikawa Kazuki
A university lecturer who teaches ethology. He is fascinated by living things, such that when it comes to the ones that he loves, he gets so immersed that he pays no attention to other things. As a result, he often forgets the rules established by the university and appointments with people. He is considered eccentric by the people around him because he does things his own way.

Eikura Nana as Mizumoto Ikumi
A beautiful dentist. She heads the dental clinic that Aikawa Kazuki goes to. She ought to have a life that makes everyone envious. But because she is serious and tries too hard, she is not warmly regarded by the people around her. She is gradually drawn to Kazuki who sometimes gets to the heart of the matter with a few words.

Kaname Jun as Kashinoki Satoshi
An associate professor who works in the same office as Aikawa Kazuki. He is an ambitious man and has his sights set on becoming a professor. He devotes himself to writing his thesis and flattering Professor Samejima Shun. He does not think well of Kazuki who became a lecturer through Samejima but gets twisted around by him every day.

Tanaka Min as Aikawa Yoshitaka
Aikawa Kazuki’s grandfather. A ceramic artist. He has watched over his grandson since he was a child and understands him the best. Even though he worries about Kazuki’s inability to adapt to his surroundings, he always gently guides him. However, he is keeping a secret from him.

Toda Keiko as Yamada Taeko
A live-in housekeeper who has worked for the Aikawas since Aikawa Kazuki was 15, so she does not mince her words with him. Although she is dumbfounded that Kazuki can keep eating the same food and refuses to clean his room, she fondly watches over him. She is the only one whom Kazuki can openly complain to and have his own way.

Kobayashi Kaoru as Samejima Shun
The head of the life sciences department, he is an authority in zoology. He was also Aikawa Kazuki’s teacher in university. He appreciates Kazuki’s ability to get engrossed in the things that interest him. Some idea spurs him to bring Kazuki in as a lecturer. He has a jovial, humorous character and an inquiring mind. He gives the impression of being vague because of his carefree behaviour.
