Synopsis: In Fukushima Prefecture’s Minami Soma City where people and horses coexist and the traditional horse festival Soma Nomaoi has been held since the old days, Matsushita Masayuki (Yakusho Koji), the owner of a livestock farm, has turned his back on Soma’s festival. Life is hard but he cannot bring himself to give up his dream of raising a G1 race horse despite the objections of his wife Kayoko (Tanaka Yuko) and daughter Shoko (Aragaki Yui). Then the Matsushita family is hit by the Great East Japan Earthquake. The farm is destroyed and they lose their son Takuma (Okada Masaki). A foal born on the day of the earthquake and saved by Takuma at the cost of his own life is what the grieving family is left with. It grows up magnificently as a result of Masayuki and Shoko efforts to raise it. Father and daughter seriously hope to make it the race horse of Takuma’s dreams but they have to face harsh reality. Kayoko has been suffering because she has not been able to recover from her grief of losing her son. She also cannot accept the foal which was born in exchange for Takuma’s life. More than a year has passed since the earthquake but the city has not recovered and the family is also at breaking point. However, Masayuki obstinately searches for a farm that will rear the foal but no farm will accept an earthquake-stricken horse. Even so, Masayuki refuses to give up. A young man called Tajima Natsuo (Katsuji Ryo), Takuma’s good friend who used to be a jockey, also helps the family. However, the disaster-hit area has not recovered and even the annual Soma Nomaoi Masayuki is in doubt. Masayuki has to rely on Kayama (Kobayashi Kaoru), the owner of a farm in Hokkaido. He eventually begins to plough the land that has fallen into ruin in order to restore his farm which was hit by the tsunami.
