Story
Ando Ranko is an unpopular detective of the Eighth Section of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division. A loner who has not assimilated into the organisation, she does not care how she is regarded, will not listen to the opinions of those around her and always acts on her beliefs. She also goes against the policies of her superiors and the task force, but personally does not feel that this is a bad thing. At the young age of 32, Ranko is the ace of Sakuradamon, having been instrumental in solving a series of difficult cases. However, many people in the male-dominated organisation do not think well of her attitude. One day, a new junior detective Aoyama Toshio, is assigned to the section and ordered to partner Ranko and join in the investigation into a model’s murder. The detective Miyake Takatoshi tells Aoyama to go and look for Ranko who makes it a rule not to carry a mobile phone. The moment Aoyama finds Ranko, his mobile phone rings and he is told that a second murder has taken place. Ranko snatches his mobile phone to get information and rushes to the crime scene. The second victim is also a model. Ranko and Aoyama arrive while Kaji Junnosuke of the Forensic Department and another detective from the Eighth Section Urabe Yoshitaka are examining the dead body. Although Urabe instructs the two of them to make inquiries around the area, Ranko ignores him and starts to examine it. She even dismisses the opinion of assistant professor Soma Meiko of Teito University’s medical faculty who saw the dead body, as a delusion. At an investigation meeting on the serial murders the next day, detective Komiyama Masaaki presents a summary of the cases to the detectives involved in the investigation, but Ranko faces her laptop without participating. Aoyama gets fed up with her. He consults Handa and is given another assignment which is to visit Professor Daimonji Tetsuto at Teito University. Professor Daimonji also serves as a consultant to the police. Unlike Ranko, Aoyama cares very much what other people think and does not want to be disliked. He downright grows to hate Ranko because she often acts on her own and pushes him around without any explanation. Will Ranko and Aoyama be able to learn to work together and get their job done?
