Synopsis: Detective Yoshinaga Seiichi (Funakoshi Eiichiro) of Kanagawa Prefectural Police’s First Investigative Division attends his high school reunion for the first time in decades. He is reunited with his first love Sakai Naoko (Tezuka Satomi), former teacher Tsumura Kenzo (Satomi Kotaro) and others and has a great time. The next day, a murder takes place and all the detectives of Yoshinaga’s team including Kagami Kiichi (Koizumi Kotaro) are gathered. The victim is Associate Professor Hasebe Osamu (Narushima Toshiharu) from Yokohama Science University’s department of pharmacy. He died from loss of blood as a result of being stabbed in the heart. Professor Takayanagi Keigo (Namiki Shiro) of the lab that Hasebe belongs to is subsequently found stabbed to death too. The two victims are inventors of a wonder drug for an incurable disease called acute leukocyte and were even awarded the Nobel Prize. Naoko’s ex-husband Mizuguchi Kunio (Ito Masayuki) emerges as a suspect from circumstantial evidence on the two cases. Professor Takayanagi had received a suspicious email from Mizuguchi right before his death. It said that he had something to tell Professor Takayanagi about the matter seven years ago and that he should come to the document room in the basement if he did not want the truth to be made public. Yoshinaga is not aware that Mizuguchi and Naoko got married not long after they met and later divorced. Their young son died of cancer. Then a missing Mizuguchi is discovered to have drowned. It is regarded as a suicide because his shoes were neatly arranged. However, Yoshinaga cannot conceal his surprise when he learns that a car belonging to Tsumura was found abandoned near the location where Mizuguchi was found. Tsumura explains that his car was broken into by a thief and stolen with a spare key but avoids meeting Yoshinaga’s eyes. After Yoshinaga examines the impounded car, he realises that Tsumura contradicted himself about where he had driven to. Tsumura, the very man who led him to become a detective, is now a suspect in the case. Yoshinaga lays his entire life as a detective on the line to crack the case.
