Synopsis: The charred body of a dead man is discovered in a vacant building. He is identified as Nagasawa Akira (Yabe Kyosuke), a sales manager at a temporary staffing agency. His hands and feet were handcuffed and he is believed to have been burnt alive like this. The head of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s Violent Crimes Section Higuchi Akira, stiffens in reaction to the brutality. At an investigation meeting, a detective of the precinct with the jurisdiction over the case Fujii Mana (Uchiyama Rina) speaks up. She says the agency where the victim worked, is a notorious company that grew rapidly by loaning money to poor young people and forcing them into oppressive work until they paid up in full. His murder is suspected to be due to a grudge borne by a person involved. After the meeting, an Higuchi is greeted by an inspector of the Police Administration Department who wants to ask him about Assistant Inspector Ujiie Joe (Sano Shiro) of the Community Safety Department. Ujiie is Higuchi’s good friend. The inspector shows photos that were sent to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police. These photos were taken at the moment Ujiie entered a hotel with a young woman called Adachi Kyoko (Matsuyama Mary). Ujiie arrested her three years ago for illegally selling stimulants. The two of them have no reason to meet and he cannot speak with Ujiie who is being monitored. That night, Higuchi visits Akatsuka Reiji (Kajihara Zen), the president of the temporary staffing agency were the victim had worked. Akatsuka says he has been receiving murder threats since a month ago and wants the police to identify the culprit as quickly as possible. A youth who sent those emails is arrested shortly after, but Akatsuka’s 15-year-old daughter Mariko (Hayasaki Yume) is kidnapped. The kidnapper demands that Akatsuka forgive the credit loaned and pay a 1 billion yen ransom for his daughter. The time limit given is 24 hours. Akatsuka has amassed money from an online dating website that he has operated since his days as a student, acquired the company of the current deputy president Ochiai Hirotaka (Motomiya Yasukaze) and became the president. He did not grant Ochiai any power and there is deep enmity between the two men. The kidnapper’s objective is believed to be to make the company bankrupt and strip Akatsuka of his wealth. There is a strong possibility that this is related to Ochiai. The police get information about a hostess whom Ochiai would always ask for at a club. She turns out to be Adachi Kyoko who was photographed with Ujiie. Kyoko quit the club tree months ago and has not been contactable since then. Then Ochiai disappears. With a life at stake, Higuchi boldly takes Ujiie out and makes him locate Kyoko … …
