On the day that a new police chief takes office at Kitamachi Police Precinct, the precinct personnel are preparing for his welcome party. At that same moment, a bus is hijacked by a man. Rookie detective Aikawa Minori is kicked out by a passenger as she tries to board the bus. She goes after the bus in a taxi but it heads straight for Kitamachi Police Precinct for some strange reason and the criminal turns himself. Minori arrests the passenger who kicked her out for obstructing her from performing her duty. But this man whom she has put handcuffs on is the new police chief, Toyama Kinshiro. Toyama had sensed the crime beforehand from the man’s personal belongings, persuaded the criminal to turn himself in and made the bus pull over at the police precinct. In his first speech as police chief, Toyama stresses that the police are on the side of the citizens. He treats the detectives as well as deputy police chief Handa Junji casually without the air of an elite career officer and this behaviour bewilders them. However, Minami Yozo and other non-career detectives who have worked their way up the ranks do not like him. Meanwhile, a series of robbery-murder cases occur. The detective pursue Taniguchi, the criminal on the wanted list. Taniguchi is on the run with 100 million yen in cash. Toyama drops by the Criminal Affairs Division and suggests that they investigate the first report of graffiti because his instinct tells him that it is connected to the wanted criminal. However, Minami says there is no need for him to interfere in crime scenes and turns a deaf ear. And so, Toyama takes off his uniform and goes out into the streets in casual wear. He starts to investigate the graffiti, but it is erased. Minori cannot hide her frustration at being excluded from investigating the wanted criminal and ordered to be Toyama’s attendant. Then they learn about an unexpected message hidden in the graffiti on the streets as they pursue the culprit. Toyama is an eccentric but compassionate man who saves citizens who have no voice, regardless of the type and size of the cases. He believes the police should be close to the citizens and make the streets crime-free. When there is a case that interests him, he must personally go to the crime scene to see everything for himself. No one will realise that he is the police chief because of his clothes. Toyama does not see things from the viewpoint of his detectives, but picks out clues to solve the case from seemingly irrelevant, unexpected things. However, his investigations which do not fit in with the conventional wisdom of crime scenes, are not welcomed by his detectives and their antagonism only gets deeper … …

Tamaki Hiroshi as Toyama Kinshiro
Kitamachi Police Precinct’s new police chief. An elite among career officers. He comes from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police’s Human Resource Department. He had hoped to go out to crime scenes the whole time and his wish has finally been fulfilled. He is easy-going and friendly and even appears simple-minded, but hides keen eyes. Instead of watching cases happen, he finds clues to solve them from small, seemingly unrelated things. This is because he is sensitive to anything unusual in his aim to make the streets crime-free. That is why he even casually chats with the people he meets in town. When he goes out, no one realises that he is the chief of Kitamachi Police Precinct because his attire is nothing like a police chief. His personality is such that he will not be satisfied if he does not see everything for himself. Although the precinct personnel are hostile towards him, he brushes this off and stubbornly sticks to his opinions.

Takashima Masahiro as Minami Yozo
A non-career detective of Kitamachi Police Precinct’s Criminal Affairs Division. He is the stern boss in the division. A high school graduate who worked his way up to become the section head, he has a hands-on approach. Because a non-career detective that he respected at Kitamachi Police Precinct died in the line of duty due to a mistake made by a career detective, he has a strong resentment of career officers. Besides that, he cannot tolerate Toyama Kinshiro appearing at crime scenes instead of staying in the meeting room like a regular police chief. He tells Toyama who tries to listen to citizens’ concerns which are not at a stage to be called a case, “Please put your personal seal in the position of police chief and do not be shaken by anything.” With his standpoint and investigation policy the exact opposite of Toyama’s, they are unable to cooperate. He intends to be the domineering husband at home, but his wife is actually the one who is the boss in the family. He is told by his wife that he has become hot-tempered because he only cares about work and is taken to yoga class.

Takimoto Miori as Aikawa Minori
A rookie, non-career detective at Kitamachi Police Precinct. She is not considered independent and is always being shoved chores by the detectives around her so she wants to be recognised quickly. Because she made a mistake as soon as she was assigned, she is all the more impatient. However, she is ordered by the deputy police chief and Minami Yozo to take care of Toyama Kinshiro and forced to reluctantly accompany him on investigations. She also has mixed feelings about being called a buddy by Toyama. She is constantly at the beck and call of Toyama because she does not know what he is thinking and feels disgruntled. She has a strong sense of justice and is a hard worker whose enthusiasm for solving cases is more than others. While she is usually serious, she is a young lady at heart. She is swayed by the values within the police organisation, but gradually gets influenced by Toyama and begins to mature.

Kondo Masaomi as Osakabe Shinsuke
The head of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police’s Police Affairs Department. A career officer with the rank of senior commissioner. He is an old friend of Toyama Kinshiro. He grants Toyama’s wish to become a chief of a police precinct and supports him from behind the scenes. He also has Toyama’s trust. He would occasionally come to Kitamachi Police Precinct with sweets for Toyama and have a casual chat.

Sounds like a fun character for Tamaki Hiroshi! I hope some kind soul will sub it. And it reunites him with his screen dad from Asa ga Kita! Awesome~

The first episode was funny, especially when I realized Toyama Kinshiro was a play on the old Toyama no Kin-san drama. He not only become of the precinct named after the same jurisdiction–Kitamachi–his badge is decorated with cherry blossoms, although the cherry blossom tattoo on the shoulder of the original Toyama no Knsan was much more dramatic. 🙂

Watched the first episode! Awesome! Fun to watch with a very nice tempo. Can’t wait to know more about the background stories of the main characters!… Especially Kin san, the role Tamaki san plays… He has a very interesting gap! He can be super soft in one scene and very scary in the next one! As expected from Tamaki Hiroshi ^^ And the lovely reunion of Tamaki san and Kondou san… the father and son in Asa ga kita!! ヾ(*´∀`*)ノ Perfect!
