Synopsis: In Japan, more than 100,000 dogs and cats are culled every year. Makita Hiroshi (Kase Ryo), a vet at the Tokyo Metropolitan Livestock Experiment Station, is transferred to Iyama City’s Animal Protection Centre. He follows the laws of the country and carries out his work. It is to cull dogs and cats that have been abandoned because they cannot be tamed, are too noisy, bit someone and all sorts of other reasons. Even though Makita tells himself that this is a job that someone must do, he feels tortured by this reality. His fellow vet Hataeda Aki (Toda Erika) seems to perform her duties with no feeling, but actually sees the doctor regularly and cannot do without tranquilisers. Their colleague Shiga Satoru (Shibukawa Kiyohiko) keeps suffering from nightmares of talking dogs. Even so everyone suppresses their feelings and continues culling the animals. Then one day, Takano Ayako (Tanaka Yuko) a vet at a municipal zoo, is assigned as the centre’s new chief. Immediately after taking up the position, she tells them to give all the dogs and cats names and summons a trimmer to groom the animals. At first, Takano bewilders Makita and the rest. But her passion to change reality influences them and they attempt to start reducing culling with her backing. However, irresponsible pet owners will not go away and the members are forced to make a difficult decision … …
