Synopsis: Yabushita Yoriko (Anne) joined the Cabinet Office’s Economic Research Institute after researching the application of macroeconomic mathematical models at Tokyo University’s Graduate School of Mathematical Scientific Research. Now seconded to the Yokohama Research Institute, she is enthusiastic about her job which allows her to serve country and society. Yoriko is an ultra-rationalist who does things at her own pace and lacks flexibility. She likes an efficient and systematic lifestyle. The train she boards, seat she sits in, path she walks, clothes she wears and menu she eats are determined by the day of the week. Because of these quirks, it is difficult for her to interact with people and she does not get on well with those around her. However, Yoriko’s life has been going as planned. She graduated from Tokyo University’s graduate school, became a national civil servant and even has tens of millions in savings. Her next task is marriage and childbirth, but her appointed time limit will soon be here. Because her late mother (Wakui Emi), female relatives and neighbours all got married around 30, she believed it would naturally be the same for herself. Thinking that marriage is no more than a contract with an ideal partner, Yoriko thinks that she should first find a partner and if that person likes her, the deal is done … … Taniguchi Takumi (Hasegawa Hiroki) is a self-professed “high class idler” who does not work, sponges off his parent, and indulges in the world of literature, arts, music and pleasure. He will never personally acknowledge it, but he is what is socially called a NEET. Nevertheless, he is neither depressed nor obsequious. He is cheerful, mild and intellectually smart. On first glance, Takumi considers it foolish to waste precious time for the sake of working, and better if he does not have to work. He takes pride in his own lifestyle. His parents are divorced and he now lives with his mother, Rumi (Fubuki Jun) in the family home. While Takumi gives himself the airs of a high-class idler, he feels that with his lack of economic clout, he is not qualified to seriously date a female let alone marry. But because of his mother’s tendency to fall sick in addition to her old age, he has to face the reality that if his mother passes away, he will not be able to continue with his current lifestyle. That is when he thinks of marriage to a woman whom he can sponge on in place of his mother!

  1. junny says:

Hmmm… might keep an eye out for Dakara Kouya, since it’s written by Kirino Natsuo and I’ve loved most of her stuff that I could read in English.

Jade, will this be under the Winter 2015 dramas even though it’s only a two-parter?

    • jadefrost says:

It will air in Winter 2015, but Orient Express Satsujin Jiken is a drama special so I haven’t included it in the list as those are for drama series.

      • junny says:

Ah okay. Hope to see it featured on this blog sometime :p Thanks for all the work you do to keep us updated on the J-drama scene!

  2. black rose says:

Synopsis for Ouroboros seems like Infernal Affairs.
I wanna try watching Kaiki Renai Sakusen then.

  3. unnichan says:

Toma and Shun?! Who cares what the drama is, I refuse to miss that!

  4. junny says:

Thanks so much for the update of Zannenna Otto, Jade! Happy to see Tamaki Hiroshi with a new drama for Winter 2015, even though it doesn’t sound very exciting, haha. And his co-star is Yutaka’s girlfriend! Is it okay if I use your synopsis for my blog update? I will credit you!

    • jadefrost says:

Sure junny, our Japanese drama love must be shared. How’s it going with Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumimasu?

Winter 2015 looks promising. There are some interesting dramas, but then there are others with questionable casting choices or scriptwriters.

      • junny says:

Thanks, Jade! I will always remember to credit. Your blog is really a marvellous resource for Jdrama fans❤

Kaisha is terrible. Tamaki Hiroshi is seriously the best thing about the drama (sorry, Ayase, even though she did a fantastic job) because his character is awesomeness personified. But he got the short shrift and had very little screentime, plus it was 10 hours of bland-faced Fukushi Sota who had a grand total of two expressions. Bah. Tamaki deserved so much better. I'm so glad he's the lead for his next drama, I'd be happy to watch him paint walls!

Winter 2015 does look promising, am also looking forward to Ueno Juri's drama with Oguri Shun. Are you watching anything else at the moment?

  5. A lot of good fare coming up! I will be looking for a few of these to watch especially my Nishijima Hidetoshi and Ouroborus too!

  6. GooseBerry says:

Thanks for the update! Some quite promising dramas coming up…
Definitely checking out the WOWOW dramas and some NHK ones as usual.
Although Sakamoto Ryuji’s upcoming drama doesn’t sound good for me, I’m going to look how It’s going to turn out.

  7. Rootabega says:

Maybe it’s a case of absence (of D-A) making the heart grow fonder, but this season’s lineup looks very tempting.
Thank you jadefrost for your hard work bringing us all of the details.:)
