Synopsis: The once wealthy Sezaimaru family has gone bankrupt and their daughter Sezaimaru Beniko (Dan Rei) stays for free in a detached house on the grounds of the mansion which were sold off. She devotes herself to experiments while living together with her son, He-kun, and butler of 40 years, Negoro Kichiei (Nagatsuka Kyozo). Although she is a self-proclaimed scientist who intends to get rich quick with an invention, she actually indulges in reading mysteries and plays mahjong with people at the nearby apartment building, Akogisou. On 6 June, Beniko, Horokusa Junpei (Hagiwara Masato), whose investigation firm’s signboard is displayed at Akogisou, Takanashi Nerina (Chiba Yudai) and Kaguyama Murasakiko (Sagara Itsuki) who frequent his firm, are sitting around the mahjong table. In the midst of this, Horokusa receives a phone call for consultation. The caller is Odawara Shizue (Kawakami Maiko), the current resident of the mansion. Shizue, whose 44th birthday falls on 6 June, noticed an envelope addressed to her while preparing for her birthday party today. Inside the envelope which had no stamp or postmark, were newspaper articles about the same digit serial murders that have been taking place on 6 June for three consecutive years. The victims ages were 11, 22 and 33 … … And Shizue turns 44 today. Having a bad feeling about this, Shizue has called to ask Horokusa, who is both detective and handyman, to guard her party. On the other hand, Inspector Hayashi (Jinbo Satoshi) of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division has been pursuing this series of tragic murders. Because the victims have been females aged 11, 22 and 33, he fears that a 44-year-old female will be the next victim this year. He has established the targets within the ward and tightened security. As Beniko and Negoro who have received invitations, Horokusa, Takanashi, Murasakiko, Shizue’s husband Masaya and son Tomoya as well as Higashio Shigeru and Asano Miyuki gather, the party begins. Beniko appears suspicious that the sender of the envelope is among those in attendance. In the middle of the party, Shizue excuses herself in an attempt to get some rest alone in the study. A black cat that has settled down in this vicinity, walks by the window frame. At that moment, there is a dull thud from the study and the lights go off. When all the party guests rush over, the room is locked. By the time the door is opened with a duplicate key, Shizue is found strangled to death by a nylon band. This was the same method used by the killer in the serial murders. Who killed her?
