Synopsis: Osaka was at Japan’s most spectacular from the Meiji to Taisho era. Western wine and spirits were imported from overseas. Wharf merchants prospered. The production of Western wine and spirits began, ushering in a new period. In the midst of this, there was a young man who went alone from Osaka to Scotland in order to do the impossible – make Japan’s first domestically-produced whiskey. In 1920, Kameyama Masaharu (Tamayama Tetsuji) or Massan for short, returned to Japan with true skills after finishing a two-year apprenticeship. He also brought a Scottish wife, Ellie (Charlotte Kate Fox). This would be the start of turbulent days. To make matters worse, the world enters a great depression and Massan’s plan to produce whiskey suffers a setback. He eventually loses his job, but is soon welcomed as the general manager by Kamoi Kinjiro (Tsutsumi Shinichi) of Kamoi Shoten which had huge success in the wine business. Japan’s first whiskey distillery is born in Yamazaki. However, the domestically-produced whiskey cannot sell … … As Japan enters the Showa era, Massan goes over to Yoichi in Hokkaido by himself. In this vast northern land similar to Ellie’s native Scotland, the two of them try out making whiskey from nothing. However, they encounter repeated failure. While the business falters, the Pacific War begins. Ellie, whose birthplace has become the enemy, is suspected of being a spy. Even so, she lives as a Japanese, loves her family with Massan, protects their workers and continues to support his dream to make whiskey.

Fall is still so far away but a few new dramas are already announced, another interesting one: http://www.nhk.or.jp/utsunomiya/drama/index.html
Thank you for always updating and translating!
Thanks for the link. NHK has been announcing a whole slew of dramas and drama specials for the year and beyond.
This one looks like a drama special which I will translate at a later date.
GACKT and Meisa Kuroki in one drama…interesting!
Hello, jade! Hope all is well with you 🙂
Eh? Fujiki as another possible cheating husband? Sigh. And I’m sad that Tamaki Hiroshi doesn’t seem to have any upcoming dramas 😦
Hi junny. It has been a while! Have you come back to jdramas?
I can’t say that Fujiki has had standout dramas or roles. His role in Dr X Season 2 was potentially interesting but I didn’t watch enough of it. Tamaki was in a detective drama last season but I couldn’t bear to go anywhere near it.
I’m mostly living off WOWOW and NHK dramas now.
Yes, I’m back on jdramas, have been on a Tamaki high for the last couple of months XD Have been watching his stuff, he’s so hot! I know about that detective drama – I’ve only seen snippets of it, but it seems hilarious and silly, so maybe I’ll still watch it for the laughs. I wish he’d get a good role soon.
Also currently halfway through MOZU, which is surprisingly tedious for a cop drama, to be honest. The acting is good, but the characters aren’t sympathetic and it’s been a lot of talk and not much action so far, which is a bit mehh.
Agree about Fujiki not having had standout roles recently, and his character in Dr X 2 was okay, a bit morally suspect but pity they didn’t really do much with it in the end. Ah well.
What are you currently watching?
It sounds like Tamaki is the reason for your return to jdramas! I’m not sure if you were able to soldier through the rest of MOZU. It was as Rootabega labelled it, ‘criminal’. I don’t know how WOWOW and TBS thought they had a good story in their hands to reunite the cast from Double Face.
I’ve been watching Border and Petero no Souretsu.
Yes, Tamaki is why I’m back on the jdrama train! I’ve had fun working through his dramas… Nodame, Shikaotoko, Love Shuffle… all good stuff. But ehhh, I’m not sure how I feel about his new role in the Ayase drama, it sounds like that stupid Last Cinderella story all over again 😦
I finished MOZU, but god, it was tedious. I don’t think I can sit through season 2 and I didn’t like any of the characters except Osugi.
I finished Long Goodbye recently, it was lovely. Asano Tadanobu was fantastic as Masuzawa and the casting was pretty much spot-on. I’m generally not big on Koyuki but she was almost luminous in that role.
I thought I saw him in a new movie coming out.
Tamaki, you mean? Yes, he’s in Bakumatsu Kokosei with Ishihara Satomi. I believe it’s out this summer.
Fall dramas look promising. At least, I see some I want to watch. I’m interested in Ayase Haruka’s Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumimasu and Koike Teppei’s Borderline. I like Kora Kengo too but I prefer watching him with Ai Hashimoto. They were cute in Hado Nattsu. Haven’t been watching too much Jdramas since then.
Nobunaga concerto…anime airing right now right? May have to check that out myself…
Wow, Fall season looks abysmal so far, after such excellent Spring and Summer seasons. Not a single one of these so far looks watchable.
I’m still clinging to hope that there will be a drama that will captivate me. But as more of them get announced, I can hardly say I’m looking forward to Fall.
Maybe one or two of the WOWOW dramas and Shinya Shokudo might tide me over.
Those NHK shows also pretty interesting, though they are likely to be typical NHK shows. I put a bet on Kizara Izumi’s drama, I have yet to see their dramas that isn’t amazing. However, I agree that Fall is far cry from the last two seasons but I hope the dark horses can turn out to be good.
Shinya Shokudo 3 all the way!!!
Reblogged this on sulovesdrama and commented:
WOW! Looking good!
meh not much shows to look forward to next season…i know fukada kyoko and ryoko yonekura are bad actresses but since theres no show to look forward to, might as well just watch eye candy lol.
and wow, they are really working takei emi hard. shes in another dramas this season?!?@!?@?
the talent agency must really keep her at a low price hence why shows still keep on hiring her even though shes not popular.
Wonderful news about First Class getting a second season, the premise is interesting, can’t wait to see how it plays out!
i want to watch that new TBS Drama Sakura-jiken wo kiku onna!! another craving dorama from my idol Ms.Yukie nakama !<3
Can you add pictures to each drama, please? Sorry if it’s too much to ask, but I’m a really visual type person esp when picking out dramas and since tokyo hive no longer seems to make these drama line ups, I”ve been looking for a place to find them in a one for all list. Anyway, if it’s too much and I’m being to uppity or w/e, don’t worry about it.
Isn’t Mozu season 2 a summer season drama? Why is it in the Fall Season dramas’ list?
It was aired on WOWOW in summer, but is coming to TBS in fall.
Did not realise Fujiki has joined the Nobunaga Concerto cast! Definitely have to keep a lookout for this.
イタズラなKiss2～Love in TOKYO
Network: Fuji TV
Release Date: November 24, 2014
Spotted this at AsianWiki Upcoming Drama for the month of November.
Can’t wait for “Dear Sister”. I love romantic mysteries.
For “Jigoku Sensei Nube,” the cast member is “Jiyoung” instead of “Jiyeon”. Former Kara member Kang Jiyoung is in this drama, and I know Jiyoung and Jiyeon are both written the same in Japanese (ジヨン).
Watching many of them, like Gomen ne Seishun, Nobunaga Concerto, Dear Sister, Subete ga F ni Naru and Kyou wa Kaisha Yasumimasu, but it’s the same old problem when you wanna catch up with the flow of the series, either the episodes are late or the subtitles are more than late
