Synopsis: 41-year-old Tamai Shizuru (Tokiwa Takako) lives with her mother Tokie (Negishi Toshie) and grandmother Sakura (Yachigusa Kaoru) in the town of Gujo in Gifu Prefecture. Although Shizuru’s grandmother is mild-mannered, she has a partial physical impairment because of old age. This makes it necessary for Shizuru and Tokie to bathe her and see to her needs. Tokie denies Shizuru almost everything and ties her down. So Shizuru has no freedom. Without freedom, she also has no dreams. She lives in monotony and just seems as if she is only existing. Shizuru works as a receptionist at a hospital run by former classmate Yazawa Yuto (Takuma Takayuki). One day, she goes to buy illustrated books to place in the waiting room and recalls a book that was read to her in the past. If she is not mistaken, the main character was Pierrot of the circus. Tokie has completely forgotten about that illustrated book but Sakura still remembers its title Pierrot’s Prayers to the Moon. Wanting to read the book again, Shizuru searches internet auction websites. The book is soon delivered but Tokie is displeased that the sender is a male. The three women read this book which brings back memories. As they do so, something falls from the book. A small scrap of paper had been wedged in it. The scrap of paper feels old and must be something from many years ago. “xxx grams of wheat flour, x teaspoon of granular sugar … ” It seems like a recipe. For some reason, Shizuru finds it difficult to throw away. It maybe something precious. This scrap of paper starts an exchange of emails between Shizuru and the man (Tanihara Shosuke) who have never seen the other’s face or even met. The two of them are connected by this story of Pierrot which was read to them in their childhood … …
