20-year-old Osawa Maiko’s father Toshio suddenly dies while on a business trip to Hokkaido. However, she has little to no memories of her father who was hardly at home so much so that it feels like it is about a distant relative when she hears the news of his death. Toshio had been the head of a major confectionary company’s sales department, and the company holds a funeral for him. Maiko visits the funeral hall with her mother Yukie and younger brother Takashi. This is where she learns about the existence of Muto Takafumi, a subordinate of her father who loathes him. Then, two detectives arrive from Hokkaido, and the family is told that the police suspect his death to be a murder and not an accident, and Yukie collapses from shock. Meanwhile, Maiko and Takashi discover many unnatural bruises on their father’s body. To make matters worse, it turns out that Toshio has a debt of 5 million yen which the family is ignorant of. Toshio’s colleague, Sado Kenji, who is the only family friend, is obviously distubrbed when asked about it but gives an evasive reply … …
