Childhood friends that had always encouraged and supported each other. On a day close to their school graduation, the four of them heard gunshots in the forest and unwittingly stumbled upon two dead men. To their horror, one of the dead was Keisuke’s father, a police officer. He had a gunshot wound at his right temple which suggested suicide after he shot the other man. The gun still gripped in his hand was extricated by Keisuke and buried along with the childhood possessions of the four in a time capsule between two pine trees in their school yard. Junichi, Makiko, Keisuke and Naoto promised each other that it would be their shared secret. But this big secret changed their lives greatly. It was also the start of a unhappy fate. Each of them grew up in different circumstances. Then a murder that occurs after 27 years leads to a reunion that no one desires. Furthermore, the murder suspect maybe one of the four of them … … Junichi, who is now a detective, comes back to his hometown with his live-in girlfriend Matsumoto Hiromi (Nagasawa Masami) because of a transfer to Mitsuba Police Precinct. He has not visited since his junior high school graduation. As if lying in wait for him, a murder occurs. Junichi immediately leaves for the crime scene and discovers that the victim is Naoto’s older step brother, Hideyuki, the store manager of the supermarket Fresh Sakuma. The first person to discover the body is an employee. Hideyuki appears to have been shot in the chest but the weapon is not found. Nara Ryo (Kitamura Yukiya) of the Kanagawa Prefectural Police’s First Investigative Division shows up at the scene. An elite trained in criminal psychology, he is to be Junichi’s partner in the investigation. Heading for Hideyuki’s funeral, Junichi meets his childhood friends. Makiko and Keisuke, a top architect, married and had a son but are now divorced while Naoto is the salesperson for Fresh Sakuma. The three of them are shocked to see Junichi who was supposed to have got out of their hometown. Hearing that he has become a police officer and is in charge of this case, Makiko, Keisuke and Naoto are lost for words. As the investigation proceeds, it is learnt that the bullet extracted from the body is from a New Nambu M60, the standard issue for Japanese police. And then Junichi conducts interviews with Makiko, Keisuke and Naoto. Meanwhile Nara starts to reinvestigate the incident 27 years ago and the four of them are compelled to face the tragedy that they had turned their backs on … … startling facts and sad truths are gradually revealed.
