Synopsis: 13-year-old Kazama Gaku (Takasugi Mahiro) lives alone in Tokyo with a computer as his only friend. Both his parents (Matsuzaki Kenji, Yamamoto Masako) are high-calibre employees of a trading firm and are based in New York. One day, Gaku gets exasperated by Yuka, a 4-year-old girl who lives in the neighbourhood. She has touched his computer without permission and he finds himself thrusting her away. This causes the girl’s death. A panic-stricken Gaku abandons her dead body, but it is found within a short time. It gets a lot of attention from the mass media who devote much coverage to the incident. Lashed by public opinion, his parents commit suicide. Gaku shuts out his emotions, stops speaking and loses the will to live. His grandfather, Kazama Shinichi (Nakadai Tatsuya), a former member of the South Pole wintering team, who has adopted him, decides on a plan that will risk their lives in order to revive him.
