Synopsis: ‘Tantei Club’ is a members-only investigative bureau for the political circle and VIPs. Urushibara Kozue (Matsushita Nao), a post-graduate law student with a photographic memory moonlights as the assistant of this secret organisation because she is in debt. Nikaido wastes no time in bringing Kozue to a mansion in the countryside. A party is being held to celebrate the birthday of Masaki Technology’s president, Masaki Tojiro (Kurobe Susumu). Nikaido had reported to the estate to take care of a matter which Tojiro had asked, but another incident occurs without his knowing. Tojiro, who should have returned to his room, had disappeared from the locked room in the midst of the lavish party. Everyone in the Masaki family is disturbed … The deputy president, Masaki Takaaki (Masu Takeshi) and Tojiro’s secretary, Narita Shinichi (Katsurayama Shingo) believe it is better not to report it to the police. On the other hand, Tojiro’s eldest son, Tomohiro (Suzuki Ryohei), insists that it is better to do so. While the opinion is divided, Tojiro’s eldest daughter, Ryoko (Tokoshima Yoshiko), who is the only one who has been informed by her father of the existence of the ‘Tantei Club’, reveals that she had made confidential inquiries about Nikaido. Nikaido and Kozue begin their investigation. He proceeds with the investigation dispassionately without saying more than he should while Kozue helps him by using her powers of memory. He has abandoned his beloved wife and his nationality to live a solitary life in hiding … Then, a section of the visitors’ book from a Nara temple, which had been burglarised, is discovered near the body of a man who was strangled to death. Members of the Dojima family and their servants are killed one after another and an investigation begins. After that, the body of their driver (Kitaro), who had hung himself, is found in the garage … It is concluded that he had committed suicide over his remorse for the series of murders, but the ingenious tricks and the painful motives of the unexpected criminal gradually becomes clear in the process.
