Story
A murder in a locked room occurs on an island. A man is been stabbed to death with a blade like that of a samurai sword. After that, the small house which is the scene of the crime, bursts into flames. Many people watch the blaze but none of them spot a person who seems to be the murderer. The house has been chained from the inside and there is no sign that any person had entered or left the place. Needing clues to solve this case, detective Kusanagi Shunpei visits Teito University to seek professional opinion and finds a familiar name on the university’s notice board. That man’s name is Yukawa Manabu. He and Kusanagi used to be mates in the badminton club and he is now an assistant professor at Teito University’s Physics Department. Yukawa had gained a reputation as an “extreme genius” since school days, and holding a faint hope in this man, Kusanagi decides to visit his laboratory. Kusanagi, who meets Yukawa again, turns a deaf ear to his assistant, Kuribayashi Hiromi’s attempts to deter him and earnestly persuades Yukawa. Even though Yukawa listens to the gist of the case, he coolly declares, “I have no interest in murder cases.” However, Kusanagi entices him. “Beautiful girls in lovely swimsuits are swarming around the island that’s the scene of the crime.” Yukawa grows interested and leaves for the crime scene to assist in the investigation. Then a curious Shionoya Akari, a research student at Yukawa’s laboratory, also shows interest in the case and trails Yukawa and Kusanagi on her own. Akari, who offers to help in the investigation is completely ignored by Yukawa, so she tries to investigate the case on her own but … Meanwhile, Yukawa and Kusanagi, who visit the crime scene, come upon Tomonaga Yukimasa, the wheelchair-bound father of the victim; Namie, the younger sister of the victim who lives with their father and takes care of him; and Konno Sousuke, her fiancee … As enigmatic people emerge one after another in the investigation, who is the real murderer? What is the motive? And above all, how did the person carry out the murder …? This is the first case that the genius, Yukawa, and his old friend, Detective Kusanagi, are investigating together. How will Yukawa unravel the trick used in this case which seems like a mystery?
