Lured by the sounds coming from the room, other hotel guests take peer in and mistake Kazuko for the murderer. “No! I didn’t do it!” Kazuko frantically denies. Detective Ogasawara (Ishiguro Ken) of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigative Division interrogates her. She maintains that she was the first person to find the body and has no connection to the victim, Ninomiya Seiya (Kimijima Asaya). In truth, Kazuko and Ninomiya were seen buying beer at the hotel’s automatic vending machine. Kazuko asserts that she just happened to be there at the same time, but the police regard her with suspicion. “I’m always making the wrong choices. Even the dice I have cast for my life turns out badly every time … …” Her mother (Kusabue Mitsuko) placed high hopes on her and meddled, in an attempt to succeed through her daughter where she had failed. With his encouragement, she finally wrote a satisfying story. But her hopes were dashed when the manuscript was sent back to her by Natsukawa. In the depths of despair, Kazuko avoided Gunma where her mother was waiting, and stayed in Tokyo for a night. It was while she was demoralised that she got embroiled in the incident. Kazuko, who has gone from past newcomer award recpient to murder suspect, gets the attention of the media.
