Synopsis: At the Abashiri prison in Hokkaido, a man is about to be released. He makes a deep bow to the prison guard and walks out. The man is Shima Yusaku (Abe Hiroshi). No one comes for him. As Shima walks alone, the expression on his face does not bear the cheerfulness of a man who has regained his freedom. Rather, he appears to be hesistant and fearful … … The next day, a bus travels north along the coast of the Sea of Japan. Hanada Kinya (Hamada Gaku) is aboard that bus. He is scheduled to go to an interview for a part-time job at a hotel in Wakkanai. However, he encounters Yusaku when he alights halfway to watch the sea from the harbour. Furthermore, he ends up staying at the same inn as Yusaku at the recommendation of Ogawa Akemi (Horikita Maki), the daughter of the owner of the joint where he had eaten his lunch. With his part-time job undecided and not knowing what to do with his time, Kinya invites Yusaku and gets Akemi to show them round the town. Before long, the three of them confess their own past. Kinya and Akemi learn that Yusaku conveyed to his ex-wife, Mitsue (Natsukawa Yui), that she should put a yellow handkerchief on the top of a pole if she was willing to wait for him … …
