Pandora2_Ep6

The control of ‘God Corn’ is about to come under the newly-inaugurated Prime Minister Muto. But this is shelved as a result of Kawakubo’s intrigue. Suzuki makes contact with Kira again. He demands the transfer of the right to represent Kira’s Holdings if the production of ‘God Corn’ is done by the company, and confines Kira at the research laboratory in Nagano prefecture.

Then, Ogura, who has come in search of Kira, arrives at the laboratory to find Suzuki lying unconscious on the floor. Suzuki comes round at that moment and brushes it off as fatigue. After apologising to Ogura once again for claiming sole credit for ‘God Corn’, he concedes that Ogura was right. Ideals alone are no use in the pursuit of research. “If you still have an attachment to ‘God Corn’, you can follow me if you wish,” and reveals his plan to put ‘God Corn’ out into the world … Kira is to be left at the research laboratory to experience the fear of starvation until he agrees to Suzuki’s terms. In the meantime, the two men will return to Tokyo.

On the other hand, Shuko who feels a sense of discomfort at Suzuki’s sudden transformation, is given his profile by Tachikawa. Her expression changes when she reads the headlines on the copy of a newspaper article among the documents: ‘Abandoned child found on the verge of starvation’.

At that moment, Suzuki and Ogura are taking Shiori with them to the research laboratory. She has prepared the documentation to transfer the right of representation of Kira’s Holdings. When they finally reach the laboratory, Shiori reacts with horror at the image of a starved Kira … Seemingly cowed into submission, Kira signs and stamps the document as Suzuki looks on with satisfaction.

Suzuki becomes the CEO of Kira’s Holdings, and Ogura follows him as his secretary. He convenes a meeting with the directors to announce that he is taking over the company at the wishes of Kira who has been hospitalised for a sudden illness. Under his management, Kira’s Holdings will focus on the cultivation and sale of ‘God Corn’. With the approval of the board, Suzuki begins to prepare for the production of ‘God Corn’ which will be centered in Europe.

However, Japan cannot have access to the emergency imports of wheat from America as a result of this. The “archipelago of hunger and starvation” before them becomes a real possibility. Kawakubo wants Muto to make Suzuki withdraw, but Muto knows it will not happen and tells Kawakubo that this is Suzuki’s reprisal for the government’s actions. However, Kawakubo pointedly indicates that it is Muto’s responsibility to bend Suzuki to his will. Driven into a corner, Muto is forced to contact Suzuki and beg him for his help.

When Suzuki hears from Muto that Kawakubo was the one who made ‘God Corn’ part of the terms of exchange with America, he demands Kawakubo’s dismissal within an hour in exchange for ‘God Corn’. After some agonising, Muto summons Kawakubo …

Meanwhile, Ogura approaches the mysterious man, Q, to retrieve the usb drive containing information on ‘God Corn’. With Kira in a catatonic state in hospital, he reasons that Q would not be able to exchange it for money now. However, he makes the mistake of calling Q a fool, which turns the man murderous. Just at that moment, Shuko, who has been tailing Ogura, appears. Q runs away and turns up at the hospital to taunt Kira with the usb drive. Kira unexpectedly responds by grabbing Q’s wrist and taking possession of the usb drive. Then, he swiftly gets out of the hospital bed and leaves the room.

Muto has ousted Kawakubo for failing to anticipate the food crisis in his role as the Minister of Agriculture. Suzuki will now head a new agency that will oversee the production of ‘God Corn’ in Japan while Kira’s Holdings will be in charge of the cultivation of the crop overseas. Things are finally taking shape as Suzuki had imagined, but …
