Pandora – Episode 7 Synopsis

Episode 7: Death

“A sacrifice has to be made for something to be born … A drug cannot be made if you are idealistic,” a self-righteous Suzuki declares in response to Matoba’s criticism. Suzuki seems to have undergone a horrifying change in demeanour. Matoba shouts at Suzuki as he drives off, “I will not take your drug!” In fact, he had suffered from cancer three years ago although it is now in remission.

At the same moment, Aimi gets herself ready for her hospital discharge. Numabe comes on the pretext of paying her a visit and hands her one million yen but Aimi cites Morimura’s death and makes him top up the cash. The security car carrying Aimi leaves from the hospital’s rear exit. And then Tomoda’s car takes off in pursuit of that car …

At the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, an emergency meeting is to be held regarding the new anti-cancer drug. Professor Otaguro, who is attending this meeting, asks Suzuki to furnish him with the anti-cancer drug’s DNA sequencing data but Suzuki refuses. Suzuki says he has all the data committed to memory to guard against theft.

Then, at conference room where people with different agenda are gathered, Otaguro appears followed by Suzuki. Otaguro claims credit for leading the research on the anti-cancer drug but finds himself outmaneuvered by Suzuki who brazenly announces that the anti-cancer drug cannot be produced without him because he holds the key to the DNA sequencing data. To the disbelief of all, Suzuki sets out three conditions that he wants fulfilled before he will offer his assistance to make the drug a reality …
